In Reception we have been learning all about Pets! To begin this exciting topic we had visitors from P.A.W.S (Pennine Animal Welfare Society) to teach us about caring for different animals. During this visit we met two adorable dogs called Doris and Jack, we had lots of fun feeding and grooming them!
We explored the following books during this topic; People Who Help Us - Vets, Oi Dog, Penguin and The Zoo Vet. We did lots of exciting activities linked to these books during our continuous provision such as; becoming Vets and Receptionists in our role play Veterinary Surgery, making lost pet posters, completing patient forms, washing pets in our outdoor pet wash, making animal masks, making model penguins using tubes, making kennels and cages in our construction area, using paint to print paw prints, weighing and sorting animals and much much more!
We have also learnt about Life-Cycles this half term. We used Eric Carle's 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' book to deepen our understanding of lifecycles. We have had our own class pet caterpillars. We have enjoyed observing their changes and now we have two beautiful butterflies!
